“No throwing yourself at him.”
“Throwing
my…”
“Just
promise.”
“Fine.
I promise.”
“I
know it felt good…the sex…but it’s a rebound thing.” I continued. “If he’s
going to want you, he should because he really does, not because you’re
offering comfort.”
“Yeah.”
Said Kendra, rolling her eyes. “Said the girl who’s doing Daniel”
“My
thing with Daniel is totally different…think it through girl.” I rolled my eyes
back at her.
And
then I remembered I was supposed to tell her about the trip but after what we
had just talked about, I decided to tell her later. I wasn’t sure she wouldn’t
talk me out of it. I mean, She knew I was on talking terms with Daniel, but I had
convinced her it was just platonic…just friends…but this trip spelled out a lot
of things. I was convinced one of her lines going to be there’s no way you guys won’t do each other over there. In my mind,
I felt it was true…I thought about it over and over and realised I was actually
looking forward to it. Plus it was Vegas…
I
really wanted to go.
Later that evening, Kendra and I got all dressed up and went to Yemi’s. True, it was a get together…a small get together. There were three other girls and three other guys apart from Yemi, Kendra and i.
As
soon as we got into the setting, I realised if we were to couple up, I’d be the
odd man out…
Odd
woman out, I mean.
I
recognised one of the guys as Yemi’s best friend. Yes, when your best friend is
crushing on someone, you automatically know stuff about that someone.
We
did a bit of drinking. One would think we mixed up with the others but no, we
didn’t. We just sat there with each other on one of the couches (actually there
was another girl on it too) gisting about crazy stuff…erm, crazy stuff other
people may not comprehend so let’s leave it at that. At one point the
conversation turn into this:
“So
Yemi’s single now.” That was my friend Kendra taking notice that the girl Yemi
used to date wasn’t with us.

I shrugged. “What do you think?”
Rather
than answer me, faced me fully smiling and
asked. “Is he looking?”
“For
what?”
“For
the lost key to the city. Bibi. “ she rolled her eyes at me and continued. “Is
he looking at me?”
I
looked in Yemi’s direction.
“Don’t
look so direct!” she whispered. “Be inconspicuous.”
“I’m
being inconspicious enough.” I whispered back.
Seriously,
I was. I mean, I only darted my eyeballs to the left. I made another effort to
be more inconspicuous…bless my
friend. I stared in Yemi’s direction…
Again…
He was deep in a conversation with his best friend. I wondered then, what they were talking about and if my friend was in it.
“Well?”
My friend said, bringing me back to the issue at hand.
“Erm…no.”
The
smile dries off her face.
“He’s
in a conversation with his friend Kendra, you don’t expect him to be looking
anywhere else.” I quickly added.
She
sighed. “I like him, I really like him.”
“I
know, you say that every time we see him.”
“Do
you think he likes me?”
“I
don’t know Kendra, he just broke up with someone…”
“It’s
a yes or no question Bibi.” She said, cutting me off. “But forget I asked!”
I
knew she was upset by that but one always have to be sincere with friends…especially
best friends. I remembered Daniel and the trip then but it wasn’t a good time.
