The Secret Diaries: Kendra

I had to look out for my friend.
She'd gone and fallen in love with some rich, arrogant dude.
The type who had women falling all over him and so took advantage.
Bibi found out the hard way...
And that was after she'd lost her v... to him.
It made me mad to know that Bibi still had feelings for the guy...
She froze every time she saw him.
I wanted to slap her all those times but couldn't...
Couldn't blame her either, I know she tried her best to forget him but it was hard.
I did my best too...
I hooked her up some other guys...rich guys but it never went beyond the first date. She was never interested.
I gave up then.
Let Bibi do whatever she wants, I told myself. I needed to respect her feelings even though it mad me mad.
I cared about her alot.
That was why when after an hour she'd told she needed to pee she wasn't back,  I got worried and started looking for her...
She was missing the party...
Hell,  I was missing the party by looking for her.
She wasn't in the ladies...
Or around it.
I asked a few people if they had seen her and said no. I was going to get frantic but Toye asked me to calm down.
Me being like that is never good for anyone who had the bad grace to be close at that point.
He said she was grown and so could take care of herself.
True...
But not enough to calm me down...
I know my friend and she never goes anywhere without telling me.
I finally felt relief when I saw her coming in through the kitchen door.
"Where have you been? Jeez I've been worried looking all over for you. " I practically yelled at her.
She smiled...
She smiled?
I tried not to get upset.
"I just needed a bit of fresh air. "
"Yes..." I said dryly. "You always want fresh air...but you never go out to get it alone. "
"Well maybe today's different "
"Maybe? " I stared at her suspiciously. "how come there's a maybe? "
Then It came to me and my eyes widened. Bibi saw that and decided it was time to move away from me but I cornered her.
"You did it, didn't you ? "
"Do what? " she asked innocently
I leaned in close to her ear to whisper the S word.
"How do you even know?" she asked,  a little loud.
"It's written all over you. "
I pushed away a strand of hair that had the guts to try to blind me.
"I'm a woman Bibi... One who's been down there over and over. Pinch me if I can't spot a girl who's just gotten some."
"What? " She had the guts to pretend to be stunned.
Then,
"Kendra... Let's just forget it. I'm here now."
She moved away from me to get a seat but I couldn't forget it...
I just couldn't...
I went after her.
"I'm your friend Bibi, why would you hide anything from me? "
"Because..." she blushed. "If I tell you, you're going to start with the lectures and I don't want any of your lectures right now...especially over a dude."
I softened at that and sat down beside her.  After all,  I'm not a saint when it comes to these things.
"Fine... No Lectures. No more lectures." I said.
Then,
"I can't believe it, you love him still...you just did it with him again!"
She turned away from me and gestured to a waiter, pretending not to hear me.
"You were angry about what happened the first time and yet you did it again."
As if that wasn't enough, I moved my seat closer...
"Bibi,  I thought you learnt your lesson. "
Seriously, I couldn't help myself...
"See what I meant, you said no more lectures. " she started, waving her hand vaguely at me.
"Moreover,  I never told you I regretted it."
"But you were hurt. "
"I was...but I got over it. Kendra, give me a break! If I want to get with him again, I will. Matter of fact,  I've decided to start talking to him again."
"Why?"
She decided then, to tell me about what happened... How he had found her in the kitchen and taken her out...
And how they had somehow made love and all that.
And then she pulled out the note and showed me.
I grabbed it from her and read.
It was a simple note that went like this :

    Hey,
Is there any chance of starting all this  again?
I mean, us. The right way?

                                                                  Daniel
Ps=>  can we meet outside please?

"You think he's serious about this? " I asked, looking up from the note.
"Maybe, maybe not but I'm not taking any chances with him... Not yet. "
"Why? " I asked, suddenly wanting to become the guy's advocate.
I tried to catch her eyes but she looked everywhere else but at me.
"Kendra,  he didn't even bother to apologize or atleast say he has feelings for me which means he doesn't. I wonder if he's playing me." she said.
I thought about it for a bit and said,
"But really, arrogant guys like Daniel find it hard to love...and when somehow they do, they find it hard to admit."
"If he has any feelings for you,  we'll know soon. "
"Maybe. Kendra, I'm tired. Can we leave? "
"Why? There's a lot of fun going on here."
"Well there isn't any more, for me." She stood up. "Plus I need to think about what just happened. I'll see you at home."

She took two steps away and it was enough to make me feel guilty.
"Wait."
She turned around like she was expecting it.
"We'll go home okay, let's just say goodbye to Toye"
I grabbed her hand and half dragged her towards Toye before she could refuse.
I once thought about matching her with my cousin but it would have been a disaster. Toye was a womanizer...
And Bibi...
Well Bibi was crazy for someone else.
Bibi endured...
One thing I liked about her.
Cos I get into the moment alot...
And I always get lost.
We ended up spending almost an hour saying our goodbyes.
My fault...
I knew almost everyone in that hall...
Bibi was annoyed...
But she endured.

I met a man once - The bad?

Hi guys, it's been  months since I updated my blog... It's been a busy 1 year for me and I'm proud of myself and the woman I've become. A friend of mine reminded me a few days ago, of how grown I have become, especially mentally and in my writing skill. I didn't take her seriously until she mentioned my blog. You can't be surprised that i decided to take a look at it this morning only to become nostalgic.  It reminded me of a lot of things but more than that, I can see the flaws in some of the things I've written, and I'm grateful that I am at a point in my career where I can actually spot all of it with ease and create several ways I could have done it better...on the spot! Before I get any more emotional 😎 I stumbled on the last draft I saved for publishing in February of last year and I'm going to share it with you guys exactly as I left it back then.  Read On... "Some of us know how we can feel a lot of different emotions for just one perso...

My truth.

It's 2:44am and I'm crying my eyes out. I feel foolish but I can't help the tears. In my two room apartment that has always been cozy for me, I feel restless and a great urge to take flight. This apartment has been home for me for months now. I leave it in three months time but no matter, it's still my home...a place of refuge, a place where I can be hidden. ...much hidden and alone... But not exactly alone. I hear the voices and conversations of many a people. Now why am I restless and unable to  sleep even at this time? It's because of a man! All my life, I've had enough tears for men...but this feels the worst. I have never cried for a man the way that I've cried for this one. I've never even settled for such a man, never thought my pride and ego would even conceal themselves all for this man. He acted different... Better than other men I've dated... But he turned out the worst of them all. No emotions... No emotions at a...

How Well Do You Know Your Telephone History?

Have you ever wondered how you could just pick up this small device and talk through it to someone else, miles and miles away from you and hear them as clearly as if they were sitting on the same couch as you? I have wondered that a lot. I have wondered who could have stumbled on the idea that something could be done to make people who live far away from each other to communicate with each other by voice. How did the person get the idea? Well, here's what i found... Two men, Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray stumbled on the idea; maybe around the same time, I don't know, but they both filed for a patent on the same day. This caused a huge disagreement that led to a legal battle to find who to be awarded the patent for the invention of the telephone. Alexander Graham Bell won. His lawyer had filed for a patent a few hours before Elisha's lawyer filed for his own patent. One day, in an electrical shop, Alexander Graham Bell was trying to perfect a method for sending mes...
